This is an introduction to the exciting new field of quantum computing, including programming actual quantum computers in the cloud. Quantum computing promises to revolutionise cryptography, machine learning, cyber security, weather forecasting and a host of other mathematical and high-performance computing fields.
The instructor will give a gentle overview of the main concepts of the field. The oddities of quantum mechanics, including the notorious “Schrodinger’s Cat” / “superposition” and “entanglement” ideas, their philosophical implications, as well as their impact on quantum computation, will all be explored. There will then be an intuitive introduction to the key components of quantum mechanics—qubits and logic gates—building on the key concepts and providing some intuitive understanding of their mathematical basis.
A practical component will include writing quantum programs and executing them on simulators as well as on actual quantum computers in the cloud.
A broader overview of quantum computing approaches, applications, challenges, methods and practitioners follows the practical component. Guidance on next steps, future directions, self-learning options and communities will complete the course.

Testimonials
Eugene’s courses are not your standard technical courses where you learn how to put data into a model and get a result. The real life experiences – warts and all – he brings to the instruction mean that attendees walk away with a better understanding of the real life challenges of analytics as well as the technical know-how. We routinely send our team members on these courses to help them get the capabilities that really help our clients get better insights from their data.
Eugene’s introductory course to data science was outstanding. I found the subject matter and delivery fascinating, accessible and informative. Eugene is approachable, interesting to listen to and excellent at simplifying complex concepts. I highly recommend this course for anyone who wants to know what data science—and all the buzz surrounding it!—are all about.
